If you’ve been told back surgery is in your future, and you’d rather avoid that route, you’re not alone.
There are many risks associated with back surgery, such as infections, blood clots, problems with the anesthesia (those risks include brain damage, heart attack, stroke, even death), persistent pain, and other complications.
Not to mention it is expensive (in both direct and indirect costs), time-consuming, unpredictable, and irreversible.
Could you imagine going through all of the hassle, expense, and trauma of a back surgery only to be left with persistent pain, or worse? There has to be a better way.
Sadly, modern medical schools are focused on managing the pain, managing the symptoms of the problem, and when to refer patients for surgery. Unfortunately, the only “treatments” for back pain that traditional medicine has to offer are medications and surgery.
At The Pain & Wellness Institute, our approach is different. Rather than line our patients up for a lifetime of pain medication to “manage the symptoms” or send them down the irreversible path of back surgery, we opt for natural, non-invasive solutions that aim to correct the problem at its source.
PRP Injections for Back Pain
Platelet-rich plasma is an advanced biological treatment that harnesses the body’s natural healing response and enhances it to help repair damage at a cellular level and thus bring about pain relief.
When you suffer any type of injury, the body naturally floods the area with growth factors, cytokines, platelets, and more through the bloodstream. These components work together to stimulate the healing process, repairing and replacing damaged cells and generating new, healthy ones.
As we age, our bodies become less and less effective at this response, and with PRP injections, we can give it a little boost.
During a PRP treatment, a sample of the patient’s blood is taken and processed in a centrifuge to separate it into its different elements. The plasma, rich in platelets and other important healing components, is then re-injected into the affected area of the back, putting this concentrated serum right where it is needed most. This can be as much as 5-10 times more effective than “normal” blood.
By letting your body use its natural healing process, we let nature run its course, working to repair the damage that is causing the back pain in the first place and hopefully averting the need for back surgery.
